At the Boskalis location in the Waalhaven in Rotterdam, the shore power installation of Rotterdam Shore Power has been officially put into operation.
Moored ships will now switch off their diesel-powered generators. In addition, the shore-based power installation of Rotterdam Shore Power, a joint venture of Eneco and the Port of Rotterdam Authority, will be used for various electrical equipment used by Boskalis in projects in the region.Positive outlook
Although Boskalis is responsible for the grid connection of the shore-based power installation, Rotterdam Shore Power is the owner of the installation. Eneco supplies green electricity from wind and solar sources. The shore-based power installation is expected to supply 2 GWh of green electricity annually, resulting in a CO2 reduction of 1,600 tonnes. This means that shore-based power contributes significantly to improving air quality by reducing particulate matter and nitrogen emissions, and has a positive impact on the living environment by reducing noise levels. The new shore-based power installation at Boskalis is therefore an important step towards a cleaner port. The project is co-financed by the municipality of Rotterdam and the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund.
